Charlotte Anne Laing

December 3, 1939 - December 27, 2021

Charlotte Laing, 82, of Cresco, died Monday, December 27, 2021 at Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center in Lake Ariel. She was the loving wife of the late Samuel M. Laing II, who passed in October of 2011. Born in Berrysburg, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Carrie (Romberger) Greegor. Charlotte graduated in 1961 from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio with a Bachelor's degree in Education, specializing in Home Economics. She worked as a teacher in Gnadenhutten, Ohio and was able regain control of a class that had been notoriously out of control. In 1962, she married Sam, who was the son of one of her college professors. Sam loved to brag (grinning) that "Charlotte was the Valedictorian of her class and the Homecoming Queen....and she married me!" In 1963, the couple made a giant leap of faith: they purchased Holley Ross Pottery, left all their family and friends in Ohio, and moved to the Poconos. Together, they spent many long hours making their business a success. Charlotte continued to find joy in running the business even after her husband's passing. When she wasn't working, she enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren by attending their many activities--everything from baseball games to band concerts; soccer scrimmages to softball tournaments. Her faith was very important to her and played a central role in her life. She was a founding member of Community Church and served as leader of the greeters for many years. Charlotte was a wonderful cook, and family always enjoyed the holiday meals that she prepared. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren, and was known to get the giggles (sometimes at the most inopportune times.) Her wisdom, advice, and ability to listen were always appreciated by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her daughter: Susan Laing Roos; her son: Samuel M. Laing III and wife, Larissa; her sister: Susan Hargrave of Ohio; her brother: Robert Greegor and wife, Dixie of Washington; and grandchildren: Hailey, Darrion, Alexa, and Sammy. Pastor David Crosby will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2022 at Community Church, 1050 Memorial Blvd, Tobyhanna. Additionally, the service will be live streamed at https://online.mycommunity.church/. For everyone's health and safety, those who plan to attend in person are asked to please wear a mask and maintain social distancing at all times. Private burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in South Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Church.
