Clarence "Lew" Lewis Brown, 80, of Brooklyn, New York passed away on August 6, 2009 at home. Born on December 17, 1928, he was the only son of the late Clarence and Florence Imogene (Bailey) Brown. He attended Boys High School in Brooklyn, followed by The College of the City of New York, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and was a member of the R.O.T.C., launching his military career. After he returned from active duty, Lew attended New York University Graduate School of Social Work, where he earned his Master's Degree. As a Second Lieutenant in the Military Police Corps, Lew served in the U.S Army in Korea from 1952 to 1954. He continued his military service in the Army Reserves from 1955 to 1967 in the Medical Service Corps, from which he received an Honorable Discharge in the rank of Captain. Lew was decorated with three medals; the National Defense Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. His work experience included Program Chief and Clinician at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, Services for the Elderly; Assistant Commissioner, New York City Dept. of Mental Health, Bronx Regional Director; and Associate Executive Director, Research and Development, National Board of Young Men's Christian Associations of the United States. Some of Lew's personal interests included art sign painting and lettering, photography, jogging and long distance running-completing in two New York City Marathons. He was also an avid lover of jazz music. He is survived by two daughters, Lynda Brown-Mintz of Reston, VA and her husband Samuel, Judy Brown-Muligano of Norwalk, CT and her husband, Michael; Lew's fiance, Mamie Houser; three grandchildren, Bomani, Inanje and Nia Mintz; his first wife, Jacqueline Williams; an extended family of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends, colleagues and neighbors in New York and PA. The Reverend David Crosby from the Pocono Community Church will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 17 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. There will be a viewing at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pa.
