Ed Cave
December 16, 2006
Ed Cave, 70, of Henryville, died on December 16, 2006, at the VNA Hospice in East Stroudsburg, surrounded by his family. Ed was the beloved husband of Pamela Cave, his wife of 46 years. Ed was born in Liverpool, England, in 1936 of John Cave and Elizabeth Amy Ward. He lived in Liverpool until after the war when his family moved to London. He was conscripted into the British Army in the 1950s, serving with the Intelligence Corps in Singapore. Following his discharge, he was employed as a claims adjuster in the marine insurance field. In 1960, he married Pamela Morland, who he met following his service. In 1964, Ed accepted a position in Canada as a claims adjuster with the Marine Office of America. In September of that year, he immigrated to Canada with his family. He rose through the ranks of the company, becoming the manager of the Vancouver office in British Columbia in 1971 and assistant manager of the Canadian region, in Toronto Ontario, in 1973. The company moved him to the corporate headquarters in New York in 1980. He served in a number of senior executive positions, eventually rising to the position of Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of the All-American Marine Slip. In 1989, he accepted the position of Chairman of the Wetzel Corporation in Houston Texas. He was a highly respected and knowledgeable member of the marine insurance field and was an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of the United Kingdom. He was also a tutor and Examiner of the Insurance Institute of Canada. Ed retired in 1995 and moved to Henryville in 2001, settling into the house that Pamela and he had built on property that they had purchased in the area. There he spent his retirement years raising English Bulldogs, fishing, and enjoying the company of his new local friends. Ed was very pleased to call the Henryville area home, however his enjoyment was cut short by the onslaught of cancer. Following a valiant fight, Ed succumbed suddenly. In addition to his wife, Pamela, he is survived by three sons; Master Warrant Officer Trevor Cave of Ottawa, Canada, Steven Cave and Bryan Cave both of New Jersey; a daughter, Annette Bamper of New York; a sister, Joyce Mitchell of Stanford-le-Hope, England; and seven grandchildren, Kelsey, Caitlin, George, Jeremiah, Kelley, Brigitta, and Benjamin. He is also mourned by his brother-in-law, Roy, his two nieces, and his daughters- and son-in-law: Eva, Paula, Anna, and Sherman, and by numerous friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John. A remembrance service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 3, 2007 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. A family friend, the Reverend Warren Harvey Schell, will conduct the service. As per Ed's wish, it is requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Dale & Francis Hughes Cancer Center, 231 East Brown Street, East Stroudsburg, Pa. 18301 in East Stroudsburg.
