May 18, 1933 - November 20, 2020
Jean Veronica Scotland-Austin, 87, of Mount Pocono, died Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Gardens of Stroud in East Stroudsburg. She was the loving wife of the late Rudolph Austin. Born on May 18, 1935 in Georgetown, Guyana, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Doris (Davson) Scotland. Jean graduated from University of Guyana in Nursing and began her career as a Nurse at Georgetown Hospital in Guyana. She left Guyana to study abroad in England and while continuing her education in England she met and fell in love with Rudolph while he was continuing his education in mechanical engineering. They later married in England and started the Austin family of seven children. Jean continued her education and practiced nursing while being a wonderful mother and wife. When the Austin family relocated to the United States she worked as a nurse in New York. Jean's Christian faith was made official when she became a baptized Jehovah's Witness. She dedicated her life to God and the ministry. As a Jehovah's Witness she volunteered teaching and inspiring others about the Bible. She enjoyed attending all of the Jehovah Witness' services. Jean was hospitable to all she was in contact with. Especially to those that were in the traveling ministry of the Jehovah Witness'. She enjoyed the music of her faith, the Kingdom melodies, and was never shy about listening to her Caribbean "Calypso" music. She is survived by her children: Beverly, Caroline, Rachel, Deborah, and Philip; 14 beloved grandchildren; and her two half-sisters. In addition to her parents, and husband, Jean was unfortunately preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer, and son, Peter. Due to COVID-19 the family had a private viewing and will conduct virtual services in her honor and remembrance. Private cremation was entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
