Kathleen M. Murphy Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Kathleen "Kathy" Murphy, most recently of Manorville, NY, passed away on June 15, 2020 holding her son's hand and surrounded by love. Kathy had beautiful blue eyes, a great smile, was always well-dressed, and kept her home impeccable. With a quiet generosity, she would slip a bit of cash or drop off a bag of groceries to those in need. She might be shy with strangers, but her friends and family knew her to be incredibly witty and fun. She was one of the first people on the dance floor at any family event. Kathy traveled the world, rode camels at the Great Pyramids, sailed to Galapagos, went on safari in Africa, walked the Great Wall of China, toured Europe, spending months in Ireland, but was happiest at home with her cat, Shelby, a cup of tea, and a good book. She was an avid Mah-Jongg player, golfer, and loved having lunch with friends. She also enjoyed looking out at the Long Island beaches where she grew up, raised a family, and retired. Kathy spent winters in Florida for many years, first in Marco Island and then in Naples. She is survived by her two children: Matthew Murphy and his wife, Elizabeth; and Kieran Adair and her husband, Troy; three grandchildren: MacKenzie Piacenti; Lily Piacenti; and Max Adair; former spouse, Kevin Murphy; sisters: Maureen Stevens; Judy Bahr and husband, Frederick; and Patricia McCarthy; and a brother, John McCarthy. In addition, she had dozens of nieces and nephews and extended family, whom she loved dearly. Kathy had deep friendships with several friends that in some cases spanned decades all the way back to when she grew up in Massapequa, or was raising her family in East Hampton, and they truly were more like family than just friends. Kathy was proud of her Irish Heritage and cherished the story of the Choctaw Indians, not having much themselves, sending money to the Irish during the potato famine and that the Irish in turn have remembered that generosity and have been supporting the Navajo and Hopi people who are struggling during the Covid-19 crisis. In addition, Kathy has always been passionate about feeding the hungry, but it wasn't just humans she cared about. She had a great love of animals, particularly her cats. Due to Covid-19, her immediate family will have a small private ceremony, followed by a celebration of life at a later date. While we can't all be together right now, please help us celebrate our mother in spirit. She lived an amazing, full life, but what we wouldn't give for just one more day with her. She will be missed forever.
