Lily Shumate

April 22, 1923 - April 4, 2022

Lily Beatrice (Beatty) Shumate, 98, of Tobyhanna, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022 in her home. Born in Baltimore, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Lewis Edward and Emma Piper (Coates) Beatty. Lily was the widow of the late Charles Shumate. She worked part time for the Pocono Mountain School District as well as the New York Board of Education for many years. Lily will forever be remembered as the best mother and homemaker anyone could ask for. She was a great cook, she enjoyed reading as well as sewing. Lily loved to sing and was once considered to sing at The Metropolitan Opera House. She sang in the Senior Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. Survivors: Lily will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Cathy Shumate and Debbie Howell and her husband Arnold; son in law, Lascelles Douglas; sister in law, Ramona Beatty; grandchildren, Christina Hardial and husband Phillip, Elisa Douglas, Brittany Douglas, Omar Howell, Sara Howell and Cory Howell; great grandchildren, Ariel Hardial, Samuel Hardial, Victoria Rojas, Omar Howell, Eric Howell, Journey Howell, Jasmine Howell, Debbie Howell, Genisis Howell, Trinity Howell, Anaya Howell, Nasir Coleman, Imani Coleman, Khalil Coleman and Caleb Coleman. Lily is preceded in death by her brothers, Louis Beatty and Lawrence Beatty and sisters, Francis Beatty and Emma Beatty. Services: A funeral service will take place at 6:00P.M. on Sunday, April 10, 2022 in the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco, Pa 18326 where the family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00P.M. until the time of service. The family requests that you wear the color of the Lily flower in celebration of mom.
