Norbert Ryan

Norbert R Ryan, Sr., 88, of Mountainhome, passed away on Tuesday, July 10 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. He was the husband of Rose (Horgan) Ryan to whom he was married for 63 years. Born on June 29, 1919 in Mauch Chunk, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Ovella (Duffy) Ryan. He graduated from Mauch Chunk Catholic High School in 1937. On October 14, 1944 he was married to the former Rose E. Horgan. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946 and saw service during WWII in Europe. After several decades of distinguished civilian government service, he retired from the Tobyhanna Army Signal Depot in 1975. Following his retirement, he and Rose devoted their lives to being wonderful parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Norbert was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Canadensis, Pa. In addition to his wife, Rose, he is survived by five children; Vice Admiral (Ret) Norbert R. Ryan, Jr. USN and his wife, Judy of Fairfax Station, VA, Vice Admiral (Ret) John R. Ryan USN and his wife, Diane of Greensboro, N.C., Dr. Michael Ryan and his wife, Kieran of Danville, Mary Beth Pultz and her husband, Richard of Springfield, VA, Patrick Ryan and his wife, Susan of Springfield, VA; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Ryan, and sister Mary McCauley. The Reverend Father David Cramer will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13 at St. Bernadette's Church in Canadensis. Burial with full military honors will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville. There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 12 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley.
