Sheila Ann Smith, 60, of Saylorsburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, September 29th at the Lehigh Valley Pocono Hospice House in East Stroudsburg. Sheila was the loving and very patient wife of Gregory J. Smith, with whom she shared 36 blessed years of marriage. Born in Alexandria Bay, New York, she was a caring daughter of Betty (Gibson) Lowery of Brier Hill, New York and the late Marston Lowery. She was a compassionate mother to Zac, Hannah, and Molly, a generous sister to Mike, Pat, Dan, Cheryl, Doug, Debbie, Jim and Robyn, a wonderful grandmother to Nora and Adam, caring aunt to many, and loyal friend to all. For the past fourteen years, Sheila worked as an Instructional Assistant and support staff union president at the Monroe Career and Technical Institute in Bartonsville. She enjoyed her work and her co-workers. Teaching and nurturing students was her gift and she applied it in many different programs, including plumbing, electrical and masonry, but her passion was horticulture. Having been raised on a dairy farm in the Thousand Islands region of upstate New York, she was a natural at helping living things grow and it brought her great joy. In addition to her husband, and mother, she is survived by a son: Zachary Jon Marston Smith and his wife, Phyllis Abalos-Smith of Bethlehem; daughters: Hannah N. Smith of Alexandria, Virginia; and Molly Ann Kitchen and her husband, Robert of Easton; brothers: Michael Lowery and his wife, Lina of Johnson City, Tennessee; Patrick Lowery and his wife, Jeanette of Brier Hill, New York; Dan Lowery and his wife, Ruth of Bunnlevel, North Carolina; Douglas Lowery and his wife, Kelly of Brier Hill, New York; and James Lowery of Brier Hill, New York; sisters: Cheryl Neal of Crescent City, Florida; Deborah Elwell and her husband, Eric of Litchfield, Connecticut; Robyn Larson and her husband, Michael of Manakin Sabot, Virginia; grandchildren: Nora and Adam Smith; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday, October 10 at Pinebrook Bible Conference and Retreat in East Stroudsburg. Pastor David Cornell will conduct at memorial service at 2 p.m. at Pinebrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lehigh Valley Pocono Hospice House or Pinebrook Bible Conference and Retreat.
