Shirley G. O'Boyle, 86, of Mount Pocono died Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at home. She was the lifelong sweetheart of Francis O'Boyle, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage. Born in Paradise Valley, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Eva (Koerner) Schaufler. Shirley was a 1953 graduate from Stroudsburg High School. After high school, she worked in the cost accounting department at Patterson-Kelley in East Stroudsburg until the birth of her children. Shirley later spent 28 years working in the Business Office and was the Library Secretary for the Pocono Mountain School District. Her love of volunteering and being active within her community started at just twelve years old when she was awarded Citizen of the Year and later the YMCA Alvin MacWilliams Award. Shirley volunteered with the Girl Scouts, was a founder of the YMCA Mount Pocono branch, was a 60-year life member for the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary where she served as president, treasurer, and secretary. She was an auditor for the Mount Pocono Borough, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Shirley was of the Methodist faith and a lifelong member of the Mount Pocono United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed sewing and solving puzzles, but most of all loved crafting with her grandchildren. In addition, she was a wonderful cook, and had a love of traveling, especially taking cruises and visiting the islands. Shirley was an excellent role model and her family, friends, and the community will miss her deeply. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters: Sheri Montgomery and her husband, Fred of Palm Coast, Florida; Reesa Watto and her husband, David of Freeburg; brother, Lloyd Schaufler of Stroud Township; sister, Irene Icenogle and her husband, Cliff of Tucson, Arizona; beloved grandchildren: Athena Poole and her husband, Alan of Magna, Utah; Jake Montgomery and his wife, Tina of Palm Coast, Florida; Kaitlyn Watto and her fiancé, Joseph Steibel of Selinsgrove; Miles Watto and his wife, Jillian of Red Lion; Danika Reynolds and her husband, Andrew of Randolph, New Jersey; Emily Watto of Pittsburgh; and Benjamin Watto of Pittsburgh; beloved great-grandchildren: Reef Montgomery; and Logan Watto. There will be a viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 26 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. Pastor Peter Richert will conduct a service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery, Swiftwater. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mount Pocono United Methodist Church, 12 Church Ave, Mt Pocono, Pa 18344, or the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company 20 Murray Street, Mount Pocono, Pa 18344.
